New breeds of web fonts are coming. WOFF.

blogdogI have fonts. I have a LOT of fonts. I like fonts. But fonts in web sites are limited — it’s hard  to get excited about the short list of web safe fonts. Oooooooooh, Ar-i-al.

To include other fonts in a web design, I could create the text and save it as a graphic. But search engine crawlers can't read any text in a graphic. Big no-no. So, we create text as 'system text' in web safe fonts that can be read by those crawlers and get our clients noticed.

But coming soon is the Web Open Font Format, or WOFF. It’ll allow more fonts to be embedded into web pages as searchable content. Why is this a big deal? Web designers will have more control over design, clients will get sites that follow their brand more closely and users will have a better web experience. Win-win.

It's still early days, but we'll be watching — Much adieu, K.
