The Campaign to Restore Lilac Way is a civic project conceived pro bono by Laukkonen Design to replace the lilacs that once lined Highway 100 from Edina to Robbinsdale. Here’s the story—In 1939, the Golden Valley Garden Club initiated a program to beautify the new Highway 100 roadway with flowering shrubs. Selling lilacs for fifteen cents each, they raised enough money to purchase almost 8,000 lilacs. Inspired by that effort, the Campaign to Restore Lilac Way will encourage individuals and businesses to ‘sponsor’ a lilac - boosting Mn/DOT’s current landscaping efforts and reviving the nostalgic beauty of Highway 100. Learn more at the web site, www.restorelilacway.com. Soon, you’ll be able to sponsor a lilac for Lilac Way. And become a part of history. Back | Forward |
